Quaker Burying Ground (a.k.a. "The Valley")
Patterson, NY


Current Status: Abandoned
Description: Still shown on the 1975 Town tax map as a cemetery. Old cemetery for the Quakers. The last marked burial was in 1862. Many Quakers used unmarked field stones as markers. One grave stone marked “H.D.” was identified by County Historian Richard Muscarella as Hannah Durga - d. 29 Jul. 1842. Three Haviland stones were moved to Connecticut, according to Mrs. Daniel Gerow.

Location: Top of Brimstone Hill on south side of the hill, directly across the road from the site of the old Valley Quaker Meeting House.

Size & Use: Eleven known graves recorded by the D.A.R. (1896-97) but stones have been removed. Many field stone markers.
