Patterson Rural Cemetery
(Includes: Maple Avenue Cemetery, Episcopal Cemetery, and Presbyterian Cemetery)

Patterson, NY

This is really 3 separate Cemeteries adjoining each other: Maple Ave., Episcopal & Presbyterian. All 3 are often referred to as the Maple Ave. Cemetery. They are all maintained by the Maple Ave. Cemetery Association. The Town of Patterson helps pay for part of the maintenance to help take care of the abandoned portions of the cemetery.

Maple Avenue Cemetery

Current Status: Active Public Cemetery
Description:

Location: On Maple Ave., off Route 311, behind the Presbyterian and Episcopal Churches.
How To Access: Park on Maple Ave. or in the Cemetery.

Size & Use: More than 1,700 graves

Episcopal Cemetery

Current Status: Old Church Cemetery
Description: Often referred to as part of the Maple Ave. Cemetery.

Location: On Route 311, adjacent to the Episcopal Church
How To Access: Park on Maple Ave. or in the Presbyterian Church parking lot.
Tax Map No.: 3.20-1-1

Size & Use: Small with a few old graves.
Earliest Gravestone: 1786

Presbyterian Cemetery

Current Status: Old Church Cemetery
Description: Contains the graves of Col. Henry Ludington (Colonel of the Dutchess County Militia during the American Revolution) and his daughter, Sybil Ludington Ogden (the female Paul Revere of the Revolutuion). D. Mallroy Stephens, N.Y. Assemblymen from 1926-52 is buried there. Tere is a stone near the road with a Metal Plaque which says Revolutionary War Soldiers were buried there. From Sep.-Nov. 1778, the Continental Army was encamped nearby, after returning from the Battle for Rhode Island. It may be possible some of the wounded died and are the ones referred to as buried here, unless that is a generic marker and refers to Col. Henry Ludington.
